I've decided to have a personal blog once again...

We have a very successful website called VCF Vancouver and I wanted a place away from that to post some general randomness. Sometimes, I'll post exclusive pictures on here, so it's worth visiting once in a while.

Now, I must warn you that this website has had many attempts at a personal blog over the years. I first started with this domain name all the way back in 2005 I believe. My memory isn't what it used to be, so I might be off by a year either way.

I actually forgot to renew this domain name and lost it. Yikes! Luckily for me, nobody else wanted it and I was able to get it back.

I'm using Habari as my blogging platform, but I hope to move to Ghost once I figure out how to get it installed. It looks like I may need a VPS for that though, which is another Yikes! moment.

About a year ago, I decided to move the VCF Vancouver website over to a private server to speed things up a bit. I thought using Amazon's EC2 services would be perfect for us, and indeed they were for a while. Then I started noticing that the website would stop working if too many people visited at once, so had to change to slightly more expensive tier to overcome this. That tier was way too pricey, running at $75 a month approximately. So, that had to go.

The next attempt was to use RackSpace... Wow! What an awesome company! The first day I signed up, the customer service I got was astounding, but I was a little out of my depth with it, so decided to go back to shared hosting. This has worked out great for the website with little to no downtime at all, even when posting very popular pictures of famous people.

Anyhow, I'm rambling now. Where was I... Oh yes, Ghost... I'm looking forward to using this brand new blogging platform when it becomes easier to install on shared hosting. I've looked at the VPS options, and I could do it, but I don't want to have to deal with every tiny little thing.

I believe that's enough for a first post, don't you? until next time...
